It’s that season again – awards season! And I’m not just referring to all the talk about Oscar-worthy and Golden Globes-friendly releases that come out of Hollywood in the last quarter of the year. It’s CSR Awards season as well, a time for the private sector to pat itself on the back for all of the great work it’s done to clean up the planet and reduce poverty. All of this, of course, while making sure that they communicate their thoughtfulness with plenty of glossy reports and flashy websites. Here is a roundup of recent CSR awards and winners, where applicable:

AmCham Shanghai 5th Annual CSR Conference and Awards Ceremony
Date: November 19
Location: Shanghai, China

The American Chamber of Commerce Shanghai announced its 2009 CSR Awards winners at the Renaissance Zhongshan Park Hotel on November 19th. The winners were:

  • CSR Award: Coca-Cola (China) Beverages Ltd.
  • Partnership Award: Honeywell (China) Co., Ltd. & Safe Kids China
  • CSR Award for Small Business: Arc8x Design
  • CSR Practitioner Award: Diana Tsui, CSR Director, KPMG China

Arabia CSR Awards
Date: October 26
Location: Dubai, UAE

An unexpected award ceremony recognizing environmental stewardship in commerce real estate development, the Arabia CSR Awards were announced in October, 2009 at the Raffles Hotel in Dubai. 57 companies were considered from the GCC, Levant and North Africa. The winners were Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Abraaj Capital and Global Village.

Corporate Register Reporting Awards 2010
Date: Voting online until January 29, 2010.

Voting for the third annual CR Reporting Awards continues until the end of January and recognizes companies for the quality of their disclosure rather than actual performance. The awards are also unique because they are decided on by the general public, as long as they are registered on the Corporate Register website. CR reports that currently 29,000 registered users are eligible to vote.

US Chamber of Commerce 2009 Corporate Citizenship Awards Dinner
Date: December 1
Location: Washington, DC

Finalists in categories such as US Community Service, International Community Service, Partnership, and Corporate Stewardship include major industry leaders such as Aramark, UPS, The Estee Lauder Companies, and the American Red Cross. The awards will be presented at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC on December 1st.

Green Awards 2009
Date: November 18
Location: London, UK

The award ceremony honoring creativity in sustainability was held November 18 at LSO St Luke’s in London. Winners were announced in categories such as Best Green Advertising, Best Green Audio-Visual, and Best Green Charity/Social Enterprise Campaign. The Grand Prix winner was the Keep Britain Tidy – Food on the Go Campaign which featured a series of clever adverts such as this one to reduce littering:
